The Co-Founders of the Charitable Non-Profit Organization, Golf Clubs for Kids
About Golf Clubs for Kids
Golf Clubs for Kids is a charitable non profit organization which Ellie and Katie Burger founded in 2009, after discovering how much unused golf equipment was lying around their house.
They were greatly inspired by the impact that the First Tee Program, a similar organization, had on children of all backgrounds. Understanding the importance of golf values in everyday life, they knew that Golf Clubs for Kids could really make a difference in the lives of thousands of children.
As Founder and CEO, they reached out to local courses to see if they could hold club drives there, spending a day outside, sign in hand, spreading Golf Clubs for Kids’ mission, and gathering unused clubs from course members. Within the first year, over a thousand clubs were donated. Over the five years they have spent running Golf Clubs for Kids, they have put in over 400 cumulative hours of community service.
Golf Clubs for Kids travels all across New England to pick up unused Golf Clubs, and frequently drives into Boston to donate them to the inner city course, William J. Devine Franklin Park. To spread their impact, they reached out to the national organization, the First Tee Program, dedicated to the same mission as Golf Clubs for Kids, and was an inspiration in the founding of this charity. Golf Clubs for Kids partnered with the First Tee Program in 2010, and have been partners since.
They are also partners with the Massachusetts Golf Association (MGA), overseeing all golf related actions in Massachusetts. Other business relationships include several local courses, such as The Country Club, Woodland Golf Club, Wellesley Country Club, Waverly Oaks Golf Course, and Braeburn Golf Club.
